ITOGON, Benguet. March 30 (PIA)—The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) recently awarded the Binga Hydroelectric Power Plant (HEPP) Unit 4 turbine which was refurbished and upgraded from 25 megawatts (MW) to 31.45 MW its Certificate of Compliance.

According to Atty. Mike Hosillos, SN Aboitiz Power-Benguet, Inc. (SNAP-Benguet) Vice President for corporate affairs, the

certificate of compliance signifies that HEPP has complied the requirements of energy laws, orders and regulations and its upgrading is on track.
In a press statement, President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel V. Rubio said SNAP-Benguet is doing the refurbishment one unit at a time to keep the plant operating.

“By 2013, we will have a practically brand new Binga hydroelectric power plant providing up to 130 MW of renewable energy to Luzon,” Rubio added.

Binga was bid out as a package with Ambuclao HEPP under the power sector privatization program.

Hosillos, on the other hand said, with Ambuclao made fully operational last year and Binga soon to be completed, these will ensure supply of power in the Luzon. (JDP/JBZ, PIA-CAR)
