Nat’l Grid announces power interruption in Baguio, Benguet on April 15


BAGUIO CITY, April 9 (PIA) — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines has scheduled a 12-hour power outage on April 15 in parts of Baguio City and Benguet. 

NGCP Corporate Communications Officer Lilibeth Gaydowen said that the NGCP has scheduled from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on April 15 a black out affecting the Benguet Electric Cooperative’s Lamut Sub Station and Itogon Totalizer. 

Gaydowen explained that the power interruptions is for the annual preventive maintenance. She added that during the preventive maintenance, they would also implement line maintenance activities along the La Trinidad-Lamut 69kV line. 

Among the major areas to be affected are : Ambuklao Road, Pacdal, Gibraltar, Mines View, Military Cut-off, Leonard Wood Road, Teachers Camp, Hillside, Loakan in Baguio City; Santo Tomas and Kennon Road up to Camp3 in Tuba and Itogon, Benguet; the peripheries will also be affected. 

Gaydowen also announced that on April 17 and 20, a 30-minute power interruption will be experienced in the morning and in the afternoon in areas of Benguet due to load shifting. 

Meanwhile, Gaydowen apologized to the public for the late restoration of power on March 22 in Baguio City and Benguet. She explained that during the scheduled power interruption from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. was prolonged due to a technical problem in the machinery of the NGCP. 

“Nagkaroon ng technical problem pero we are trying our best na hindi na mauulit iyon,” she said. 

Gaydowen also said that the energy crisis in Mindanao will not happen in Luzon explaining that there is a 1500 megawatts surplus of power supply in Luzon. 

“The power outages are not connected with the lack of supply but for preventive maintenance only,” she stressed. (RC- PIA CAR)
