LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, April 18 (PIA) — With the successful conduct of the Philippine’s First International Skyrace for high altitude mountain trail running in Mt. Ugo, Itogon, Benguet, town officials move for its institutionalization as an annual event.
Through Resolution Number 66 series 2012, they are recommending to the organizers, the Philippine Skyrace Association (PSA) and the International Skyrace Federation (ISF) that the event be held annually at Mt, Ugo, Tinongdan, Itogon.
The first “Pilipinas Akyathlon,” held last February , was part of the 2012 Skyrunner World Series Trials. The race was participated by more than 100 foreign and local runners, and was dominated by Kenyans.
The event is a 33 kilometer race, a mostly uphill climb to the summit of Mt Ugo then ascending to the finish line at the hall of Barangay Tinongdan.
The activity was in coordination with the Department of Tourism – CAR, the provincial government and the local government units of Itogon and Tinongdan barangay.
The local government of Itogon and the host barangay strongly support the annual conduct of the event as it will boost the tourism industry.
