On March 8, 2011, the Municipal Council of Itogon penned Resolution 70, offering a sisterhood relationship with Makati City.

It was on June 1, 2011 when the City Council of Makati passed Resolution 2011-105 endorsing the twinning.

“Both the municipality of Itogon and the City of Makati desire to strengthen ties through exchanges in science and technology, culture and arts, tourism, planning and urban development, commerce/trade and industry, education and sports development, environmental protection, public health and social services…,” the agreement further stated.

The Municipal Council earlier stressed in their resolution, Itogon “is host to the operation of three hydroelectric power plants and over the years other socio-economic development activities have been introduced…particularly in the field of agriculture, local handicraft-making, tourism, sports and others.”

On the other hand, the Makati City Council underscored, “the sisterhood pact will not only strengthen friendship ties but more importantly institute a working avenue of communication in facilitating exchanges of information and technology, urban planning policies and development, socio-cultural activities, income generation and fiscal management, health care facilitation and public education intensification, and other important aspects of local governance that is beneficial to both local government units, thus, leading to its growth and advancement and eventually self-sustainability.”
