Itogon strengthens partnership for livelihood

ITOGON, Benguet – The municipality continues to promote sustained livelihood through a strengthened partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and the non–government organization, Balitok Livelihood Association.

The council recently authorized Mayor Oscar Camantiles to enter into a memorandum of agreement with Dole and the association for a community enterprise development on small scale mining input retailing.

The project has an equity equivalent to 20 percent of the total cost of the project.

Earlier, the association submitted its proposal on the project to Dole, the agency tasked to evaluate and approve the project.

The project is now under the Dole’s capacity building for livelihood program through community enterprise development, which is an effort of the National Government to alleviate poverty.

As part of the local government unit, the town agreed to be co–partners with Dole for the implementation of this livelihood project.

Itogon town is known for its mineral deposits with mining as the main source of livelihood. It caters now to different mining companies, which are into mineral extractions like the Philex Mining Corporation, Benguet Corporation, Itogon Suyoc Mines Inc., and Indophil Resources, among others.

It also has different tourist spots like the L300 swimming pools and other known mountains where different sporting events are held.
