TUBA, Benguet – The legislative body of the town opposed the joint boundary agreement of Barangays Ampucao, Itogon and Camp 3, Tuba.
The council headed by Vice Mayor Clarita Sal–ongan expressed its intense opposition through Resolution 77, series of 2012 which was submitted to the Provincial Board of Benguet.
In an earlier joint session of the Barangay Councils of Ampucao and Camp 3, both parties agreed to base their settlement on a study commissioned by both barangays to determine the metes and bounds of the boundary disputed.
The two councils adopted the findings of the study which revealed there is a space between the concerned boundary areas with around 727.4644 hectares. The study further revealed the Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) 276 of the Philex Mining Corporation which consists of 80.6682 hectares totally fall inside the space between Camp 3 and Ampucao.
The study recommends the MPSA 276 of the mining company be divided equally into two that will accrue to both barangays with 40.3341 hectares each.
The lawmaking body of the town appreciated the initiative of the two barangays to solve the historical boundary dispute of the towns.
However, the town council said, “There is no vacant space alleged because the open space is part of the jurisdiction of the Municipality and it is not even within the alleged disputed area.”
Itogon Councilor Gerard Cornel earlier revealed the joint agreement of the barangays.
